One thing about being a nurse and a nurse educator, it’s made me think about ways to make life easier for students and other nurses. Being an educator has pushed me to develop, often on the spot, tools that help learners facilitate their own learning and growth. Below are some of my imaginings and creations that are a result of creating content that the students and nurses I work with could find helpful. Feel free to find the documents and resources at the google drive links below!
McMurray Switzer Medication Administration Prep Guide
This is a small guide to help student nurses, new nurses, and experienced nurses who have been away from roles requiring medication administration for a while to administer medication in a way that is safe, patient-centered, and based on critical thinking and clinical reasoning. Thanks to my colleague Scotty Switzer, MSN, RN, for his help in the design of this updated guide!

Helpful Apps and Tips for Nursing Pharmacology and Beyond
This is a document I created for the first set of students I ever taught. I was teaching a hybrid Pharmacology course for ADN-RN and LPN students at Robeson Community College. I included apps, tips, and wisdom I’ve gleaned during my career thus far. The Word document includes information that is helpful beyond pharmacology. This document inlcuded embedded links for you to click on for easy access to some of the resources mentioned. I hope it can be helpful to you.
PatMacRN Pharm SCAM Framework (Old Framework)
This is a little framework I came up with a while ago to help student in the pharmacology course I was teaching develop a process for how to answer pharmacology-focused NCLEX style questions.. but also how to work through problems related to pharmacology in clinical practice.

PatMacRN’s Pharm S.C.E.A.M.S Framework (New) (PDF- Google Drive)
This framework, adapted from my original S.C.A.M framework above, adds in factors of education and social determinants to the framework to help guide students and nurses in scenarios concerning pharmacology in nursing, whether that be on a NCLEX question or a real-life care scenario. This newer framework reflects the work of my master capstone projects where I advocate for adding robust modules on the social determinants of health to the nursing pharmacology curriculum.
